The very first transatlantic cable dates back to 1858, and it was a telegraph cable, meant for telegraph communication. The problems that appeared are the same that we face nowadays with cables and, more in general, transmission lines: signal distortion, signal dispersion, signal attenuation, crosstalk, and so on.
In this talk, we will review the main concepts of transmission lines theory, focusing on crosstalk. With the word “crosstalk” we refer to the unintended electromagnetic coupling between wires and PCB lands that are in close proximity. If not properly taken into account, the product may interfere with itself because the source of the electromagnetic emission and the receptor of the emission is within the same system, something that is known as intrasystem interference.
We will review some common crosstalk scenarios and good-to-know countermeasures.
